William Afton was born in England, and was the youngest sibling of four. His parents were cold towards him, his father in particular berated him frequently growing up for being too weak to help with the family butcher business. Consequently William spent most of his free time working on his hunting skills until he discovered his passion for robotics.

At 19, Will attended College for robotics in Utah, where he met Henry Emily. The two liked eachother, but never had an official relationship because it wouldn't have been accepted at the time. Beyond that, Will was very insecure in his public image. He began dating Clara Schmidt purely for her family's high status. Spring of '71, the pair found out they were expecting. William broke up with her and accused her of cheating, but agreed to take a DNA test after the baby was born, which proved he was the father. An agreement was made to share custody 50/50.

After College, him and Henry Emily began building small robots to sell to toy companies, but were unsuccesful, and by 1975 transitioned to a restaurant that showcased their creations. The same year William married Laura Partridge, a student studing forensic science. Henry and Will created the characters of Fredbear and Bonibell, a set of costumes which they planned to turn into full-sized robots. The duo proved to be wildly popular.

May 13, 1977, Laura and William had twins, Elizabeth and ███████. He continued throwing himself into the company, which proved succesful when the Fredbear company was able to open two more locations, being Fredbear Jr's and Chica's Party Palace. His high came to an end when his wife, Laura, passed away in 1981. Afterwards he became quite bitter, and was especially jealous of Henry for still having a happy marriage. Besides his work, his focus shifted to taking care of his youngest son, who he vowed to give a better childhood than Will had.
